Glagolitic Script
Lecture by Dr. Mateo Zagar entitled 'The Glagolic Heritage of Croatian Culture' is a part of our Language project and it will cover the continuity of the Glagolitic script and the Church Slavonic language among the Croatian people from the 11th until the 20th century, and their relationship with the Latin and Croatian Cyrillic (West Cyrillic) scripts, as well as the Latin language and Croatian vernacular. The main focus will be on the intermingling of the original Byzantine literary and linguistic tradition with the liturgical, palaeographical and historical particularities of Western European culture.

The subject of his MA dissertation was The Coherency of the Baska Tablet Inscriptions, and the subject of his PhD dissertation was The Principal Editing Guidelines of Croatian-Glagolitic texts in the 12th and 13th Century. Dr Zagar is the author of 15 scholarly papers and has participated actively in a large number of international conferences (Vienna, Budapest, and Leeds) and given lectures at the Universities of Budapest, Ljubljana and Udine.
