Language Project

The main CSYPN project of 2001 was a series of lectures about Croatian language. The occasion for such a project was exceptional: the EU pronounced 2001 to be the Year of Language and for this reason the project gained even more importance.

The language project is an ongoing affair - we are constantly promoting the Croatian language with more lectures in mind. Moreover, we want (and have succeeded ) to round off the project with a publication of selected lectures.

The project has a number of aims, and the most important are:

  • to increase the awareness of all the aspects of Croatian language and culture among British academics and students, especially among those dealing with linguistics and the study of Slavonic languages
  • to create the awareness of Croatian culture among members of the British society in general
  • to 'refresh' the knowledge of Croatian language and culture among Croats in UK

Many Croatian institutions have shown a great interest for the project, like the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Science, Education and Sports, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Faculty of Philosophy in Zagreb, the Faculty of Philosophy in Zadar, the Lexicographical Institute Miroslav Krleza, as well as many individuals.
