Tennis Tournament

We will accommodate any level, gender, or style as long as you indicate how good your tennis is. Please use a scale from 1-5 (1 being a top player, 5 a beginner).

Matches will be played on good astro-turf courts at King Alfred School (beautiful grounds close to Hampstead) and during the tournament there will be an opportunity for your friends/family/children to engage in other sports activities such as unihoc, badminton, basketball.

100 Minutes of Slava

Since in 2004 we organised (with CAN and the Embassy) the first Croatian film festival in more than 30 years, we are seeing more and more of Croatian films in the UK. Do join us if you can for the best of the contemporary Croatian cinema.

CSYPN's First Book

This project has a number of aims, and the most important are:

• to increase/create the awareness of Croatian culture and language among members of the British society in general and in academia
• to 'refresh' the knowledge of Croatian language and culture among Croats in UK

In 2001 we organised three lectures:

• prof. Branko Franolic at Trinity College, Cambridge
• prof. Mateo Zagar at SSEES, UCL , and
• Dalibor Brozovic at the Croatian Embassy

We got two of these talks into a nice 110 pages book with lots of beautiful illustrations.

Dalmatian Klapa

On Sunday 1st June the Croatian Chaplaincy is organising (the first) annual gathering with Mass and reception with Klapa Decima.

Renata Pokupic is an esteemed mezzao-soprano singer from Croatia, who regularly performs at events across Europe.  On Thursday, 17 April, Renata will be performing at the Barbican, in Handel’s opera, Flavio.

Flavio had apparently flopped when it was first performed in London in 1723, however, we’re sure you’ll be satisfied with Handel’s artistic genius this time-around, and its performers, including our Renata of course.

Viva la Vida! @ Vinyl Bar

This coming Saturday will feature a special guest, Seraphim Codex (Robert from Bjelovar), who is one of the best Croatian DJs and was a finalist of Heineken DJ World Championship in Las Vegas last year.

This promises to be a great night out and it would be great if you could join us.

A Wonderful Night in Split

His Excellency Josko Paro, the Croatian Ambassador to the UK, said:

I hope this is only the beginning of a regular appearance of Croatian films in Scotland. Cardinal Bozanic

Cardinal Bozanic will hold the Mass in The Sacred Heart Church at 4pm on Sunday. After the Holy Mass the Croatian Chaplancy has organised some food and drinks in hall The Cardinal Hume Centre.

The Latin American and Caribbean Cultural Society (LACCS), with the support of the Slovenian Embassy is organising a concert of Zarko Ignjatovic, Croatian/Slovenian classical guitarist at the Leighton House Museum. Zarko will play Slovene, Croatian, Italian and Mexican music.

We are pleased to announce that the Croatian Ambassador to the UK, Josko Paro, has invited CSYPN members and their guests to a Christmas Reception at his residency in Hampstead on Thursday 20th December 2007.

This will be our 5th visit to the Hampstead residency - proving again that CSYPN is an important part of the Croatian-UK community or that our members are behaving themselves, or both.

As with last three years, this will be one of the highlights of the Croatian social calendar in London and, indeed, a very enjoyable occasion.

CSYPN dinner at Nikita's

This time we'll visit the Nikita's, London's most well known Russian restaurant. They hosted the late Princess Margaret, The Beatles, Kate Moss, Elton John and Richard Gere. Their web site needs updating as our Committee member, Viktor, has been there too.

England v Croatia

Even more, we are organising a Croatian House - a meeting point for Croatian fans in London - for three days (Tue-Thu).

A CSYPN member Stephanie McNamara has already entertained us with her lovely voice in the past. There is another concert on Saturday, 10th November.

"We  Divas Rouge - are giving another concert with voice, clarinet  and piano and we'd love it if you'd come along! As usual we'll take  you through the centuries with some lovely music including pieces  from Schumann, Verdi, and Rossini, all the way up to Cole Porter  and Kurt Weill. Wine and refreshments are included in the ticket  price."

Cakovec - Old Town of Zrinski's

This year BCS will celebrate Cakovec in the presence of His Excellency the Croatian Ambassador, Mr Josko Paro and Mrs Paro and the Mayor of Cakovec, Mr Branko Salamon and Mrs Salamon, with music by the renowned folk-singer Lidija Bajuk with supporting musicians and local wines provided by the celebrated local producer Vino Lovrec .

The adopted Cakovec charity for the evening will be the School for children with special needs. Proceeds from the auction and the raffle will be donated to the school.

Following quite busy a few previous weeks/months (tamburitza band & Davis Cup, Film Festival, ...), we are going to meet again for our regular pub event. This time we'll again go to The Chandos in St.Martin's Lane near Leicester Square. If you're coming for the first time, please do lets know.

Josip Lizatovic, a CSYPN member, has invited us to the opening of his new exhibition, In Situ. The Private View will take place  on Friday, 19 October 2007 at 7.30pm, while the exhibition continues through 1st November 2007.

Despite of the fact that we were beaten by Britain in the Davis Cup this weekend, we had a wonderful time in Wimbledon and Cadogan Arms. All the Croatian players (Ljubicic, Ancic, Cilic, Karanusic, Zovko) joined us and enjoyed an excellent tamburitza band from Vinkovci - these guys know how to entertain. When you add kulen and rakija - the enjoinment is guaranteed.

Now, after tennis - it's another basketball session. On Friday evening (7-8pm) we'll put our kit on and have fun on the court. If you wish to join, please email us as soon as possible, but not later than Thursday 27th September. Price is £5 for non-members and free for members.

Closer Croatia

The Festival, also entitled Closer Croatia, will again take place in the Riverside Studios, Thursday 11th - Sunday 14th October 2007. The programme is made of contemporary eight feature films and ten short films. We hope you will join us!

Ljubicic v Henman

On Friday 21st September and Saturday 22nd September after the match in Wimbledon, most of the Croatian supporters will head to the Cadogan Arms on King's Road.

The range of media on show includes photographs, book art, mixed media work and video. Many pieces manipulate London and its inhabitants, including the photographers themselves, into starting points for the exploration and transgression of traditional genres.

Salvador Dali

After inspecting the exhibition we shall head to the nearby The Founders Arms pub for a drink as well as chat and artistic discussion.

Kensington Gardens

Please should bring your own food, drinks and a blanket which will be quite handy. Also, your friends are welcome. The start is planned for 3pm. Of course, we'll go the a local pub afterwards.

Ballet Troupe Croatia

Svebor Secak, principal dancer of the Croatian National Theatre and an internationally acclaimed artist is bringing his Ballet Troupe Croatia back to London.

Maksim Mrvica

Sibenik born Maksim Mrvica knew he wanted to play the piano when, aged just eight, he caught a glimpse of the instrument at his best friend Alexanders house. Nothing could stop Maksim realising his dream, not even bombing of Sibenik nor Serbian snipers. Now, 22 years on, he is one of the most famous classical pianists in the world.

Euro 2008 Qualifier - Croatia v Estionia

We'll go to our usual place to watch football - The Cadogan Arms on King's Road. The game will be shown on the big screen (there are a few), with the kick off at 7.30pm. Brink lots of friends and enjoy the game with us. We look forward to seeing many of you there!

The idea is to assemble at London Waterloo at 9.45am, travel by train and bus, walk, have a lunch at a pub (Noah's Ark), walk a bit more, visit another pub (Duke of Cumberland) and get back to London.

A CSYPN's own Stephanie McNamara has already entertained us with her lovely voice in the past. And there will be another opportunity on the 21st April. The programme will feature everything from Bach to Cole Porter in a variety of music for voice, piano and clarinet (and combinations of the above!). Following the concert, we will be off to the pub round the corner.

Don Drago Berisic of the Croatian Catholic Mission has informed us about the Easter service in Croatian. CSYPN Executive Committee wishes you happy and pleasant Easter. 

Bowling in Queensway

We have a couple of lanes reserved for the evening, so there wil be plenty of time to play, drink and chat. And if you don't have those special two tone shoes we all love so much, then they'll be supplied for you.

At our Annual General Meeting we'll give a presentation about the CSYPN in 2006 (events, membership, money matters, ...), as well as outline some ideas for 2007. Also, there will be elections to the Committee in 2007. Some refreshments will be provided.
